Step 1: Avoid pressure like the plague

Pressure slows thinking and heightens resistance. Lower the temperature first. Give just enough each sitting to keep them in the sweet spot between boredom and overwhelm. Only teach the next thing after they're solid on the last.

Step 2: Teach a pattern, not a fact

Pick one times-table family — say, the 9s — and teach it as a pattern. Not "memorize 9 × 7," but "here's the rule that makes every 9-fact obvious." Your child gets the whole family in one short session.

Step 3: 15 minutes a day, parent at their side
